Marciana is the oldest municipality on Elba and includes almost the entire western side of the island. The expanse of the municipality of Marciana includes the highest peak on the Elba Island, the Mount Capanne, and numerous seaside resorts such as Procchio, Sant'Andrea, Pomonte and Chiessi.
Marciana Marina is the smallest municipality in Tuscany and one of the most famous coastal resorts on the island, known for its tourist port and the seaside promenade with characteristic restaurants and shops. The film set of the popular TV series āBar Lumeā is also located there.
Porto Azzurro is instantly recognisable by its lovely granite and terracotta village square which overlooks the sea and tourist port.
The village is surrounded by restaurants and cafes and is also appreciated in winter for its natural exposure to the sun. It offers a lively nightlife which makes the area popular among younger people.
Rio is steeped in mining history. It has several beautiful beaches and a particular atmosphere with rich, earthy colours. It is home to the Mineral Museum and the Mine Park of the Elba Island.
The other two ports connecting to the continent are part of this municipality and are to be found at Rio Marina with its ferry service and Cavo with its hydrofoil service.
