Nowadays, we know that it is really important to protect our environment. Numerous initiatives have started for "Sustainable Tourism" in full respect of the environment, territories and host populations. Sustainability doesn't go on vacation. This is why we have decided to draw up these points, to relax on holiday without damaging the Italian coastal heritage.
- Always throw your waste in the special containers for separate collection. Remember that the beach is not a landfill. For example, a straw takes from 20 to 30 years to decompose, a paper handkerchief three months, a glass bottle never completely degrades;
- Pay close attention to plastic, it takes very little to make a plastic bag end up in the sea and make it a trap for many marine animals. Our sea is invaded by microplastics, which is why it is important to collect the plastic that we find on the beach so that it does not end up in the water;
- Beware of cigarette butts, they take 6 to 12 months to decompose;
- Pay close attention to polluting sunscreens. This product is essential for protecting the skin from sun damage. It is important to choose creams that contain mineral-based sunscreens such as zinc oxide. Most of the creams dissolved in water damage the marine ecosystem, in particular the corals;
- Do not light bonfires on the beach, you could risk setting fire to the neighboring bush. Many fires during the summer season are caused by still-burning bonfires or cigarettes left by distracted tourists;
- Do not collect the sand to take it home as a souvenir! This is regarded as a serious environmental offense punishable by law;
- Respect the local fauna, avoid catching crabs, molluscs, jellyfish and leave them in buckets. Taking a jellyfish out of the water and letting it die on the shore is considered a crime punishable by severe fines as established by article 544 ter of the penal code.
