The town of Marciana Marina lies in the centre of a small gulf, surrounded by a rich forest of pine, chestnut and oak trees. With its picturesque neighbourhoods with narrow granite streets and pastel-coloured houses overlooking the sea, it is one of the best-known places on the island of Elba. This small village also became famous for being the location on which the TV series 'I Delitti Del Barlume' was filmed. Marciana Marina is in fact Pineta, the imaginary town on the Tuscan coast between Pisa and Livorno where the stories from the imagination of writer Marco Malvaldi take place.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Characteristic is undoubtedly the Borgo del Cotone. The name derives from the Latin 'Cos, Cotis' and means cliff, a series of rocks. This is the ancient and romantic fishing village: old buildings perched on the rocks overhanging the sea with their colourful facades eroded by the salt spray and the boats pulled out of the water right under the doorstep. The extensive seafront promenade, adorned with a centuries-old row of tamarisk trees, lends itself to pleasant walks that lead to the Appiani Tower. The ancient tower, erected as a lookout post to defend the furnaces from the assaults of Dragut's pirates, is a true symbol for the town, which, while maintaining its ancient vocation for agriculture and fishing, has today developed considerably in the tourism sector.<\/p>
